Privacy policy
Last updated 28 October 2026
This policy explains what information the Shellspace game collects, why, and what you can do about it. Shellspace is operated by Christopher Allen ("we"). Contact: archlinuxusa@gmail.com.
Signing in
You sign in with a Google or Discord account through SpacetimeAuth, the sign-in service of SpacetimeDB (Clockwork Labs), which hosts the game's database. When you sign in, Google or Discord shares your basic profile with SpacetimeAuth: an account identifier, your name or username, and your email address. SpacetimeAuth keeps a user record for you so you can sign in again, and gives the game a token that identifies your account. We use the token only to know which captain is yours and to make sure each account has one captain. The game itself does not store your email address. We never see your Google or Discord password.
What the game stores
- Your captain: the captain name you choose (shown to other players), an identifier derived from your sign-in account, and your game state: credits, ships, cargo, standings, bounties, corporation membership, contracts and similar game records.
- Chat: messages you send in chat are visible to other players and keep only the most recent messages of each channel.
- Server logs: the game servers log technical events such as connections, logins and errors, which can include your captain name, account identifier and the network address your game connects from. We use them to run the game, fix problems and prevent cheating and abuse, and keep them only as long as needed for that.
- On your computer: the game saves your settings and a sign-in token on your own computer so you stay signed in. Signing out from the game's menu removes the sign-in token.
How we use it
Only to run the game: to sign you in, keep your captain and progress, show other players your captain name and chat, keep the game fair, and fix problems. We do not sell your information, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it except with the services that run the game (SpacetimeDB for the database and sign-in, and our own servers), or where the law requires.
Where it is kept
Game data is stored in SpacetimeDB's hosted service (Maincloud) and on our own game server. SpacetimeDB's handling of data is described in its own privacy policy.
Your choices
You can stop playing at any time and sign out from the game's menu. To have your captain and game records deleted, or to ask what we hold about you, email archlinuxusa@gmail.com from the account you play with. You can also remove Shellspace's access from your Google or Discord account settings.
Children
Shellspace is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has signed in, contact us and we will delete their records.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
